Activities form the base of the timetable. In fact, a timetable is simply a mapping
of the activities to time slots. It is the knowledge of "on which day and lesson
each activity takes place".
Activity
An activity consists of the following components:

Group(s) - an activity involves one or more groups.

Subject - the theme of the activity.

Teacher - an activity involves a single teacher.

Length - the number of cells that the activity spans over. For example, if
each lesson's length is 45 minutes, and the activity must be taught for 1 hour and
30 minutes each time, the length of the activity is 2.

Quantity of cells per week. This is the number of time slots that activity
occupies during the week. For example, if each lesson's length is 45 minutes, and
the activity is taught for a total of 3 hours during the whole week, the quantity
is 4.

Scheduled (shown only in the timetabling workspace) - the number of cells that have actually been scheduled in the
timetable. This field is calculated by the program, according to the existing timetable.

Room - a selection of rooms into which the activity can be scheduled. This
field is optional and can be left blank in case the room is irrelevant. Otherwise,
the activity will be scheduled into one of the selected rooms.

Equipment - a selection of equipment required by the activity. For each activity
type, you can select the desired quantity. For example, if the activity requires
two projectors, you can select "2" near the "Projector" equipment type.
How to Enter Activities?
The activities are entered at the Activities page in the Database.
This page contains a list in which each row represents one activity. The activities
are created by adding rows to the list and filling them with the above data. At
the top of the page there is a toolbar with the following buttons (there are four
more buttons, which are explained later):

- Inserts a new row into the list.

- Deletes the selected row(s) from the list.

- Copies the selected row(s) contents to memory.

- Pastes the previously copied contents into the selected row(s).
At the beginning insert several new rows into the list. Now you are ready to start
filling them. To fill a cell, click on it with the mouse. A small button with an
arrow will appear at the right side of the cell. Click on that button to show a
list of the objects (groups, teachers, subjects, rooms or equipment) that can be
selected in that field. To fill the Length or Quantity fields, click
inside the empty cell, and type the desired number with the keyboard.
Sets
In general, any combination of activities can be scheduled at a given time slot,
as long as they do not conflict with each other. If you need to make sure that several
activities are scheduled together simultaneously, you can create a Set.
How to Create Sets?
First of all, fill the rows of the activities that belong to the set as explained
above. Afterwards, you need to mark these rows as a set. This can be done either
by clicking on the first button below and typing the numbers of the rows which you
wish to unite to a set; or - by selecting the rows you had filled and then clicking
on the second button below. The following buttons are located at the top of the
Activities page:

- Creates a new set by entering row numbers which should be united to a set.

- Creates a new set by uniting the currently selected rows.

- Breaks a set and restores its activities to ordinary rows.

- Defines a color for the currently selected set.
Each set can have a title. If you type a title for a set, the title will be shown
in the timetable, rather than activity contents. The title can be typed in the Group
column of the first row in the set (this row contains the word "Simultaneously"
when you create the set).
Timetabling Workspace
The environment in which interactive scheduling is done was designed to be as intuitive
and as comfortable as possible. In the center of it appears the timetable grid which
shows all scheduled cells.
